Dreamweaver and SFTP

Dreamweaver MX 2004 (and later versions, including Dreamweaver 8) support SFTP. To configure Dreamweaver 8 to use SFTP:

  1. Open Dreamweaver, and select Site -> New Site...
  2. Select the Advanced tab and then select the Remote Info category. For Access, choose FTP. The FTP host will be a name in the form of hostname.oneigloo.com, as provided to you by oneIgloo. Initially, you can leave the Host directory field blank (your SFTP session will default to your home directory) but later you may wish to change it to the subdirectory incoming/public_html/your web site name, where your web site name is your actual domain name (but without the .com, .net, etc.). Enter your Login id and your Password. Make sure the checkbox for Use Secure FTP (SFTP) is checked. Then click on the OK button.

The file transfer applications built-in to Macromedia Dreamweaver versions 3 through MX do NOT support secure file transfers. To continue using Dreamweaver to transfer files to and from oneIgloo you can either upgrade to Dreamweaver MX 2004 (or later) and configure it to use SFTP, or, if you can't upgrade, use a technique called tunneling. With tunneling, Dreamweaver is configured to FTP to an SSH client running on your computer. The SSH client then encrypts and forwards the data securely to oneIgloo. Contact oneIgloo if you need assistance.
